Business Structure
The other day I was talking to someone who provided medical and paramedic support at sporting carnivals about their business structure.
I found out that they were operating as a sole trader.
To me, this is a high risk occupation if something went wrong.
We have all heard about people who have died from sporting events – especially contact sports like rugby union, rugby league and AFL. My son’s school personally experienced it.
This person could lose their house if someone was seriously injured at an event they covered and their professional liability insurance did not cover that situation.
So, to me, it was a no brainer. The cost of setting up and maintaining a company was worth it just to protect their house and any other personal assets.
That is why sometimes when you are setting up your business, don’t just focus on the easiest and cheapest way to start. Think of factors like risk – are you willing to put your house on the line if something bad happens. Get some advice on your business structure!
