Learn why it is really important right now to look after your staff, because if you don’t look after them, they may not be there when the recovery comes and you may be left behind as others grow faster than you do

Today I want to talk about one if the strategies in my Business Survival Guide – that’s about looking after your staff, what I consider your most important asset
Not sure if you remember in the GFC, a lot of the big accounting firms laid off a whole lot of staff. This was good during the GFC as they needed to save money, but once the GFC was over, and demand for their services increased, they did not have the staff to deliver, So their revenue growth and recovery was hampered by the fact they did not have the people to deliver what they needed.
Now let’s instead compare this with a tech recruiting firm I was working with at the time. Rather than laying off staff, what they did instead, everyone took a pay cut. Now once the GFC was over, and demand for their services increased again, they had the whole team to go and find the people and they had all the connections of that team to go and to find the right candidate. So they were able to ride the recovery and grow their revenue pretty rapidly after the GFC
And if you look at the big accounting firms today, they are not making the same mistake they made last time. This time they are reducing hours.
That’s why I say it is really important right now to look after your staff, because if you don’t look after them, they may not be there when the recovery comes and you may be left behind as others grow faster than you do.
