Circular Plastics Program – Round 1 EOI closing soon

Circular Plastics Program

If you are in the make cycle of plastic products in NSW, the Circular Plastics Program may be of interest to you.

The aim of the Circular Plastics Program is to reduce barriers and maximise opportunities for improved circularity at the ‘make’ phase of the plastic product life cycle and improve plastics circularity.

As part of this program, there is funding of up to $500,000 for small business (stream 1) and up to $750,000 for partnerships of three or more organisations (stream 2) to implement projects that perform at least one of the following:

  • reduce the amount of virgin plastic used
  • increase the amount of recycled plastic in products
  • reduce the amount of hard-to-recycle plastics used
  • catalyse partnerships between producers, end users and the resource recovery sector.

Note the funding is matched funding, so in effect for every $1 of project spend, the Circular Plastics Program could contribute $0.50 in funding up to the cap.  And of your share, at least 50% has to be in cash.

Small Business Eligibility for the Circular Plastics Program

To be eligible your business must:

  • Hold an Australian Business Number (ABN)
  • Have fewer than 200 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees at time of applying
  • Operate at the ‘make’ phase of a product life cycle (e.g. product manufacturing and design)

The project to be funded must focus on new product design and/or new processes in the manufacturing of plastic products.

Application Process

The first phase of the process is the submission of an Expression of Interest (EOI) which needs to provide a high-level project overview that clearly show applicants have the capacity and capability to address the program priorities.

All EOIs are assessed against set criteria and a select number of applicants will be asked to make a detailed application.
