In today’s demonstration of why a cashflow forecast can change your business or your life, I want to use a real life example of how a cashflow forecast allowed 2 business owners to quadruple their income.

Now when I first met these business owners, they were paying themselves less than they were paying their staff.

Why, because in their business, the cash collections for the business were very lumpy, and they still are. Based on way they were reporting their results, they were having months where they were reporting large losses. They were concerned about their ability to pay their staff and their suppliers in the future.

So they paid themselves very little. In fact, one of the owners was actually working part time at another business.

I did 2 things for them. The first thing I did was restated their financial performance so they could see the true monthly performance of their business. And secondly, I did a cash forecast for them where I effectively doubled their salary and showed them that they could pay themselves double their salaries and still comfortably meet their obligations to their staff and suppliers.

We sat down, agreed that cashflow forecast as their budget and they started paying themselves the doubled salary.

Roll forward 12 months later, we now sat down again and looked at we were going to do for the next year. In another cashflow forecast we have been able to show them, they can comfortably double their salary from last year still comfortably pay their suppliers and staff.

So, in the space of a little over 12 months, some cashflow forecasts have shown these business owners how they can quadruple their income, without adversely impacting their business, their suppliers and their staff.
