January 2021 Jobs Data
The January 2021 Jobs Data released today shows another 29,000 people being employed in January. Unlike in December most of these jobs were males over 25. Employment for people under 25 actually fell between December and January.
Between February and May, there was over 877,000 jobs lost. Between June and January 2021, 814,000 of these jobs have been recovered. Employment is now just 0.5 percent below February.
But the recovery is not even. Full time employees, women and people under 25 still bear the brunt of the job losses.
Even between states the recovery is not consistent. In January, Victoria added nearly 44,000 jobs. But this was offset by jobs lost primarily in WA and SA. Employment in NSW in January is still nearly 53,000 below February 2020.
Here are the key changes in employment data between February 2020 and January 2021.
