Jobsaver Micro Business Grant Re-Qualification

Jobsaver Micro Business Grant Re-Qualification

Buried in a press release the other day, the NSW Government announced a Jobsaver Micro Business Grant Re-Qualification.  Meaning businesses who are on JobSaver or the Micro Business Grant need to reconfirm their eligibility for these grants on a fortnightly basis after 28 August 2021.

And on Friday 10 September 2021, Service NSW rolled out the online portal to enable this requalification process to commence for JobSaver.  The Micro Business re-qualification portal looks like it will open from 13 September.

Businesses are now starting to receive emails from Service NSW asking them to undertake the Jobsaver Micro Business Grant Re-Qualification on a fortnightly basis.

And if you don’t reconfirm your eligibility these payments will stop.  So, this will become an important email you need to read and respond to every fortnight.

Under the rules announced last week, in order to continue to qualify for JobSaver, or the Micro Business Grant, your business:

  • must continue to experience a decline in turnover of 30% or more, compared to:
    • the same period in 2019, or
    • the same period in 2020, or
    • the 2-week period immediately before lockdown; and,
  • if you are an employing business, maintain your employee headcount as stated in your application.

Based on the press release, I will expect that businesses will now need to compare their turnover for a minimum 2 week window after 28 August 2021 with either the same 2 weeks in 2019, 2020 or to the period 12-25 June 2021.

At this stage there appears to be a grace period for the first two-week payment period.  We are waiting on further advice from Service NSW on what happens next.

At least you don’t need an accountant’s letter for this re-qualification process.

But I am not sure how the process will work for people with inconsistent income.  For example, if they don’t have 30% decline in one 2 week period so fail to requalify, but experience a decline in the next period, do you need to re-apply

I will update this post when I learn more.
