June 2020 Jobs Data
The ABS released the June 2020 Jobs Data today which shows the impact of the COVID-19 shutdowns on the workforce.
The good news is that between May and June over 210,000 more people were employed. The hardest hit areas of the workforce, being women and people under 25 managed to have nearly 125,000 and 102,000 more people employed.
However, all labour force metrics are still way down on the pre shutdown February data with employment still down 5.1% on February. The number of unemployed people increased again in June by 69,000 people and the (official) unemployment rate is now at 7.4%.
Clearly you can see the impact on employment of the restrictions being lifted in June across the country.
Be interested to see what the numbers look like in July and whether the job recovery in Victoria in June will be lost with Melbourne being shut down again.
