March 2021 Jobs Data
The March 2021 Jobs Data released yesterday was the last jobs data before the end of JobKeeper. This data showed that in many categories, jobs had recovered to the pre Covid shutdowns in March 2020.
The categories that are still short of February 2020 data include:
- Because the labour force has grown over the past year, unemployment still remains above February 2020 in both absolute numbers and percentage terms.
- Full time jobs down 15,000 on February 2020.
- Jobs for employed people under 25 down 26,000 on February 2020.
- When looking at the state data, only Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia have more employed people in March 2021 than February 2020.
The real data we are waiting for is April 2021. I personally know of jobs lost when JobKeeper ended. So, it will be interesting to see the data after JobKeeper has ended.
