NSW Going Global Export Program – Food and Beverage to the USA
If your business is looking to export food, beverage, and agricultural products to the USA, then the NSW Going Global Export Program – Food and Beverage to the USA program may be for you.
The NSW Going Global Export program itself
The NSW Going Global Export program helps eligible NSW business to access free support to expand to new international markets. It does this by providing access to
- online workshops
- business matching
- coaching from a dedicated Export Advisers
- access to the NSW Trade and Investment Commissioner in-market
- support from industry experts
- training in marketing and e-commerce.
The program is split into streams being Health and Medtech, Technology and Food and Beverage.
Within each stream there are various different product and market subsets, which open for businesses to apply for from time to time.
And one such product / market subset that opened on 14 November 2022 was “Food and Beverage to USA”.
NSW Going Global Export Program – Food and Beverage to the USA
This program provides support for businesses to export food, beverage, and agricultural products to the USA and is focused on the activity period February to July 2023, including attendance at the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York in June 2023.
To be eligible to apply for the overall NSW Going Global Program your business:
- Have headquarters in NSW with a valid ABN
- Be export-capable and export-ready
- Have between 5 and 199 full-time equivalent employees
- Have a product or service that is produced primarily in NSW which is achieving sales already
- Have a website featuring the product or service
- Be prepared to adapt the product or service for the market
Additional eligibility requirements for the Food and Beverage to USA stream you must:
- Have products that are US FDA compliant and/or obtain the US Department of Agriculture Food and Safety and Inspection Service (USDA FSIS) establishment listing by 15 May 2023
- Products must have USA compliant labelling.
- Have funding or generating revenue to support US market expansion
- Have already identified some potential customers or partners in the US and/or have existing market traction
Businesses not eligible for this stream:
- Products containing hemp or THC
- Products not consumed by humans, for example, pet food
- Vitamin/supplement products
- Wine (wine has a separate Going Global stream)
- Honey (due to market saturation)
Note you can only apply for one stream at a time.
What the NSW Going Global Export Program – Food and Beverage to USA covers
You get access to:
- Introduction to the USA Food and Beverage ecosystem and doing business in the USA
- Market intelligence briefings and cultural training
- Export preparation including FDA registration assistance
- Potential partner search and introductions and business matching
- In-market assistance (including at the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York in June 2023), mentoring, ongoing advice and follow up.
