September 2020 Jobs Data
The ABS released the September 2020 Jobs Data today which shows continued drain on the Australian economy of the enforced shut downs in Victoria.
Across Australia over 29,000 people lost their jobs in September and over 35,000 of these were Victorians. As a result, unemployment crept up again and participation rates dropped.
The big winner in September was Queensland with a further 32,000 jobs added. This may be a sign of what is to come as more and more business owners get frustrated with the shut downs in Melbourne and start thinking about moving north.
All labour force metrics are still way down on the pre shutdown February data with employment still down 3.3% on February. Here are the key changes in employment data between February and August.
