Small Business Northern Flood Grant

The small business northern flood grant will provide $10,000 to small businesses and not-for-profit organisations that are impacted by floods in February and March 2022, in selected Northern Rivers regions of NSW.

Eligibility for the small business northern flood grant

To be eligible for the small business flood grant your business must:

  • Be physically located and operated in the following Northern Rivers regions of NSW: Ballina, Byron, Clarence Valley, Kyogle, Lismore, Richmond Valley, and Tweed local government areas.
  • Experienced a decline in turnover of 40 per cent or more during the month of March 2022, compared to March 2021 or March 2020 due to the impacts of flooding. Note businesses that have experienced a decline in turnover for reasons other than flooding, such as seasonal variations, COVID-19 or have closed for holidays or renovations, are ineligible.
  • Have an ABN and have been operating in NSW on 1 February 2022. Note there are slightly different evidence requirements if your business started after 1 January 2021.
  • Derived at least $75,000 in turnover in the year ended 30 June 2021 or 30 June 2020.
  • An aggregated annual turnover of between $75,000 and $10 million (inclusive) for the year ended 30 June 2021, or 30 June 2020. Note if your turnover is above $10m you may qualify for the medium business northern flood grant of up to $200,000, which applications are not yet open.   • intend to continue operating or re-establish operations within the highly impacted Northern Rivers LGA noted above.

You may also be eligible if:

  • your business operates in an eligible LGA but your ABN is registered at an address outside these areas
  • you are a sole trader impacted by sickness, injury or leave.

NOTE: Businesses that receive the $50,000 Flood Disaster Recovery Small Business Grant will not be eligible for the $10,000 Small Business flood grant.   To learn more about the $50,000 Flood Disaster Recovery Small Business Grant click here.

What can the funds be used for?

The Northern Rivers business support package can be used to cover business costs such as:

  • salaries and wages
  • utilities and rent
  • government fees and charges (including local government rates)
  • financial, legal or other advice
  • marketing and communications
  • perishable goods, or
  • other business costs.

Note like many other recent NSW grants, you will need an accountant’s letter re the 40% decline in turnover and will need to supply a copy Australian income tax return for the year ended 30 June 2020 or 30 June 2021 (whichever is most recently lodged).
