Today I want to talk about another strategy out of my Business Survival Guide – that’s about the importance of updating your systems and processes.
In another video I talked about making sure your staff are as efficient and effective as possible. But I quite often see good people are hamstrung by inefficient or ineffective processes and systems so they can’t deliver their best work.
You need to challenge all business assumptions about how you are doings things, why are you doing things, how long it takes you to do things. And ask yourself can it be done better, quicker, faster, cheaper. And rest assured if you are not their sitting there thinking about this in your business right, some of your competitors are, and when this recovery happens, they will be better positioned to ride the upturn than you will be.
So you need to focus on how you can make your systems and processes more efficient and more effective.
And here is a plus at the moment, one of the good things about changing your systems and processes now, is that you have got the time to do it. When you are busy, everything is done in rush. New systems and processes are put in in a rush and there are shortcuts taken. And these shortcuts often mean there are mistakes made and tings fall over. Right now if your business has slowed down, you have the time to do this properly. You have the time to make sure the change is done correctly, so therefore when the business picks up again, you have a better locked in solid process.
And here’s the other benefit, if you are eligible for JobKeeper, why not get some who is paid for by JobKeeper to focus 100% on reworking all of your systems, and all of your processes so at the end of this you have a better solid business that is as efficient and as effective as it can to add as much value through to your customers
