Let’s have a look at the 4 footy teams lined up for the grand finals this week. You’ve had the Swans and Geelong in Melbourne for the AFL last weekend, and have the Parramatta Eels and the Panthers in Sydney this weekend for the Rugby League.
Now do you think that these 4 teams are not going to train and practice the week before the grand final?
In fact, they have been training and practicing for since last November to reach this big milestone.
And 2 of these teams (Geelong and the Panthers) were in losing grand finals 2 years ago. Both of them learnt from that loss and for Geelong they turned this into a win on the weekend; and the Panthers won last year and have the chance to repeat this again this weekend.
And then I look at business and business owners and managers.
Time and time again I see them go to meetings with clients, potential clients, suppliers, staff and they have not practiced, practiced, practiced or trained, trained, trained and they wonder why they get a sub-optimal outcome.
Time and time again I see business owners not learning from past misses.
And that’s why I believe the good sporting teams can teach business about how to get the best outcome.
